Up

I know its not very exciting but the old fore hatch is definitely letting the boat down. So a new one is being built and will be on soon.

The hatch has 1" iroko sides which are jointed and doweled together. The top is marine ply screwed and glued to the sides Here the hatch is being tried in place. The screw holes have been filled with an epoxy filler mix and the whole exterior of the hatch glassed with epoxy and woven cloth. As with the decks, Peel Ply was used to give a reasonable thickness of epoxy to provide a waterproof wear resistant finish.

I have given the new hatch a little camber so it has to have an additional frame inside to land on and make the seal. This also beefs it up further still And here it is painted with 6 undercoats and two gloss. Not bad if I say it myself!
